Messy Play at Christmas.
At 360 Play, we believe children learn best through practical, playful experiences that ignite their curiosity and imagination. That is why our messy play area is at the heart of what we do, it is more than just fun, it is an essential part of early childhood learning.
Through messy play, children explore different textures, colours, and materials, helping them to develop key skills across all areas of the EYFS. Scooping, pouring, squeezing, and mixing strengthen fine and gross motor skills, while experimenting with materials supports Understanding the World as children investigate how things feel, move, and change. It also builds Communication and Language as children describe what they are doing and share ideas with others, and encourages Personal, Social and Emotional Development by allowing them to take turns, express creativity, and build confidence in their own abilities
Our sensory trays play a special role in this kind of learning. These trays are designed to engage all the senses, through materials like rice, sand, water, foam, or festive items such as glitter and pinecones. As children scoop, stir, or dig, they are not just having fun, they are developing focus, problem-solving skills, and sensory awareness, which are key building blocks for future learning.
As we move into the festive season, our Christmas crafts bring extra excitement and creativity to messy play. Making decorations, cards, and ornaments encourages imagination and fine motor control, while also giving children a wonderful sense of pride and achievement. These creative moments link beautifully to the Expressive Arts and Design area of the EYFS, helping children to explore materials, use their imaginations, and express themselves freely
Most of all. Messy play and festive crafts at 360 Play are about creating joyful, meaningful experiences. They help children learn, grow, and express their individuality, all while having fun and makin lasting memories. We can’t wait to see all the festive creativity come to life this Christmas!
